BIO
Saskia works from her seaside studio on Bunurong Country in Rye, Australia.
Born to two German artists, Düsselberg originally trained and worked in fashion design before making a sea change to devote herself fully to painting. Recently named a finalist in the Mornington Peninsula Contemporary Art Prize, she exhibits regularly across the region.
Her practice is predominantly abstract, shaped through layered surfaces and textural depth that evoke a rich interior life. Emotive brushwork, gestural movement, and intuitive mark-making animate each composition. Working primarily with oil paint, she also incorporates polymer, charcoal, and pastel.
Her work has been collected both throughout Australia and internationally, through exhibitions and online platforms.
“My work explores the relationship and interconnectedness between our inner and outer nature. It is deeply emotive and intuitive. I am endlessly curious about what lies just beyond the periphery — the liminal threshold between the tangible and the imperceptible. May we stay forever curious” — Saskia Düsselberg
